In the American League Championship Series, The Mighty Hott Dogs and Staff Infection were locked in a pitcher's duel until Jared Kepnes hit a ball to leftfield that was right at the fence, and left-fielder Rob Gimler had a chance as it knocked off of his glove and went over the fence for a Home-Run, giving the Hott Dogs a 3-0 lead. The Hott Dogs later added another run in the 4th to extend their lead to 4-0. Kepnes held the Staff Infection bats quiet until Tim McCombe hit a towering fly ball that cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Staff Infection had plans of another comeback against the Mighty Hott Dogs. Tim Campbell hit a one out single to gets things started, follow by a McCombe single to get two on and only one out. Cathy Davis hit a hard line drive that was snared by the third baseman. Down to their last out, Nick Schleicher hit a soft infield single that was thrown over the first baseman's head and allowed a run to score and moving the winning run into scoring position. Rob Gimler was up in a crucial spot and tried to use his speed to get him aboard. He hit a rope, but it was right at the third baseman, who quickly scooped it up and threw out Gimler, and onto the Championship game went the Mighty Hott Dogs.
In the Championship game Kepnes held a potent High Flyers offense to only one run by getting over half of his outs by the way of fly-outs. The Mighty Hott Dogs won the game by a score of 5-1. Jared Kepnes was named MVP throughout the playoffs registering three wins and giving up only six runs in three games. Thank you for all the players and teams for coming out this season. Please get your team registered for next year as the Mighty Hott Dogs will try to defend their Championship title.
Flag Football
The intramural flag football regular season has ended and 12 teams are left to fight for the championship title. The playoffs get underway this Tuesday 11-17-09 and the championship game will be 11-24-09 at 3:15pm. Please check bscbears.com for the most up-to-date information.
Team Handball
Team Handball is in its final week of regular season play. Two teams are still undefeated, however will play each other in the final week of the season. "Shock N' Awe" and "2 Wood or Not 2 Wood" look to stay unbeaten and both look to gain the number one seed in the playoffs. The playoffs look to be highly competitive and should provide many exciting moments. Some players off to big statistical season are Chris Williams, Nik Finn, Ryan Wood, Josh Carajaves, Billy Blaisdell, Ryan Levesque, Casey Flynn, Chris Basler, and Tom Allison.
Volleyball
The intramural volleyball season is in its final weeks of play. Intramurals is offering a recreational league and also a competitive league this year. In the competitive league, the Fudge Brownies and Da Bad News Bears both sit at 5-2 and look forward to making a push for the championship. Da Bad News Bears, however lost their captain and setter Rachel Kuhn to an elbow injury. It will be a tough challenge for "Da Bad News Bears" however they believe their up to the challenge. In the recreational league, Team Classic , and The Legends, are both undefeated, however something will have to give when they play each other on 11-16-09.
Upcoming Intramural Sports
The Arena Flag Football tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday December 5th and 6th. The tournament is being co-sponsored by Kappa Delta Phi. Please have your teams signed-up by December 1st. Space is limited!
Ice Hockey
On Veteran's Day, the Bears were at home to take on conference rival MIT. In the first period, MIT jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a shot from the point that was deflected past goalie Zack Dupere. The Bears were unable to find any offense in the period and headed into the locker room trailing a goal.
After the intermission, BSC quickly tied the game up after John Cole found Chris Boyle in front of the net for a power play goal. After that, BSC picked up the pace of the game led by Dave Barnard, who had a total of six hits in the period. Before the end of the second, Derek Fortuna added in a goal to increase the Bears lead to 3-1. In the third period, BSC came out firing and were able to extend their lead to 5-1 with goals from Ryan Hebert, John Cole and Mike Wilson. With the win, the Bears come away with two points towards their place in the conference standings. Their upcoming games include Roger Williams University on 11-21-09 and The Harvard University Club Team on 11-30-09.
Dance Team

Equestrian
The Equestrian Club celebrated their first place win during the first show hosted by UMASS Dartmouth. This fall, the club has tripled in size which allows them to participate in all divisions at the Hunt Seat shows. It has been five years since the Equestrian club at Bridgewater State College has received a first place ribbon and first place trophy. You can see their ribbon and trophy displayed in the Tinsley Center today!
