This coming weekend, the Bridgewater State Ultimate Frisbee Team, or B.U.T as they are called, is hosting its annual "Toilet Bowl" at the Tinsley fields.

The squad has been an institution here for over ten years, although the following is rather underground due to the obscure nature of the sport. This makes the recruitment a little difficult for its three captains; Caleb Lopes, Jim Steeves, and Andrew Lauranzano.

"It's not a major sport so it's a little difficult to recruit new members," said Lauranzano "especially since we were moved from the Shea Durgin fields where people could see us playing to the fields at Tinsley where no one can see us"

The B.U.T may not be the most well-known of teams on campus, but there are few with closer bonds and team chemistry. The three captains of the squad, Lopes, Steeves and Lauranzano have been living together for three years. Friendship has formed not only between the three captains of the team, but the whole squad as well.

"We practice together three days a week and eat dinner together afterwards, and we travel together which helps us develop close ties," said Steeves. "We have a lot of fun together."

Lauranzano also commented on the close knit bunch, saying,

"We travel together and share floors during tournaments where we have to stay over so we spend a lot of time together. We're a laid back bunch and we're made up of kids from a lot of different groups; we're accepting of all types."

"I live with a Vegan [Steeves] and a kid who loves America [Lopes]," Lauranzano added jokingly.

These bonds have even kept some members at BSC, as in the case of Lopes.

"I was actually going to transfer freshman year but I joined the Frisbee team and through that I made a lot of friends and then I ended up living with Jim. We've been living together for three years now."

The "Toilet Bowl" is not only the single home tournament for B.U.T, it's also the main form of fundraising for the squad and a chance to catch up, not only with teams from other schools, but with past B.U.T members as well. The Alumni also have a team during the tournament.

"Every team in the tournament pays to play here and we use that money to play in all our other tournaments for the year," explained Lopes.
