6th Dashboard Confessional Album
Joshua Masterson
Issue date: 11/19/09 Section: Arts & Entertainment
Another year, another Dashboard Confessional album. With little change to their famous musical style, Dashboard Confessional's latest album Alter the Ending is sure to please their avid fans. But for those of us who have grown tired of the same old thing this will surely disappoint you.
For the diehard Dashboard Confessional fans, who love their acoustic songs with the deep felt lyrics, there is no shortage on this album. If you have grown to want something different from the artists who had somewhat changed from album to album at the beginning of their careers, they now seem set in the genre they feel most comfortable with. Evolution is very important part of a band's success and this seems to be missing on Dashboard's latest album, writing many songs which sound like they belong on older albums.
Alter the Ending has received little to no media publicity. Usually when artists of this magnitude go into the studio to write a full-length record, we hear about it from the very beginning. This album seemingly missed hits, and lacked any songs that will stay with you for longer than five minutes after listening to it.
This is very disappointing. With hits like "Stolen," "Screaming Infidelities," and "Vindicated," you wouldn't expect a completely forgetful album from Dashboard Confessional.
With all this scrutiny about the "same old" Dashboard album, fans will find comfort in the unchanged Dashboard Confessional they have come to know and love.
