Community
Starring: Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Jeong Join, and Chevy Chase
Network: NBC
Airs: Thursdays at 9:30pm
Series Premiere: 9/17/09
From the hilarious visionaries who brought you Arrested Development and The Sarah Silverman Program comes Community, a cleverly funny sitcom that takes a unique shot at a small group of misfits who attend a community college in Greendale, Wisconsin. Joel McHale (The Soup) leads the flock as Jeff Winger, a word-slinging lawyer whose diploma has deemed him unfit for work in the United States (he graduated from Columbia, the country) and is now in pursuit of a legitimate degree. With the help of his peers, Jeff puts together a study group in hopes that he will meet a girl.
The creative writing staff alone is reason to give this series a chance and with a cast that includes McHale, Jeong Join (The Hangover), and Chevy Chase, how could this one go wrong?
Bored to Death
Starring: Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis , and Ted Danson
Network: HBO
Airs: Sundays at 9:30pm
Series Premiere: 9/20/09
Advertised as a noir-otic comedy, Bored to Death follows Jonathan Ames, (Jason Schwartzman) a hack writer who has, as of late, been suffering from writers block. To alleviate the pressures of his profession, Ames posts advertisements on Craigslist claiming to be a seasoned private detective. Soon after, he gets a call from a potential client wishing to enlist his services and his adventures into the New York underworld begin.
The show was penned by Brooklyn native Jonathan Ames from a short story he wrote, but it will not be a complete reproduction of that. Ames has equipped a fresh new perspective that should help carry the story's linear structure onward. This is one of the more creative shows hitting your boxes this fall.
Flash Forward
Starring: Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger, John Cho, and Dominic Monaghan
Network: ABC
Airs: Thursdays at 8pm
Series Premiere: 9/24/09
Loosely based on the novel written by Canadian author Robert J. Sawyer, "Flash Forward" is the story of a worldwide black out. Everybody has lost consciousness for two minutes and seventeen seconds, which has caused cars to crash, helicopters to soar into buildings and starts mass hysteria. When the people wake up in this nightmare they get a brief look into their lives six months after the incident. Some foresee death and others glory. A small group of LA based victims set out to piece together what happened, and what will.
ABC hopes to pick up stranded fans of Lost and build a fan base similar to that previous success. The cast is sure to make the characters come to life and with the latest addition of Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of The Rings) and a mystery that stretches throughout the season dealing with what has happened and what is to come, I expect viewers to commit to this series.
Titan Maximum
Starring: Rachael Leigh Cook, Seth Green, Donald Faison, and Billy Dee Williams
Network: Adult Swim
Airs: Sundays at 11:30pm
Series Premiere: 9/27/09
The creators of Robot Chicken are back with a new series and their looking more serious then ever, kind of. The show is stop-motion animated and follows a group of teens tasked with saving the world with the help of their giant robot. The series attempts to poke fun at the motif of teenagers saving the world. The concept has been popularized a little over two decades ago with the release of Voltron so this makes the show a real treat for anyone who has grown up around '80s pop culture.
The cast is full of talent with acts such as Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), Frank Welker and Rachael Leigh Cook. If you're a fan of Robot Chicken you will appreciate what Seth Green and company are doing here.
