On April 21st, Bridgewater State College's Music Department held its first ever Music Scholarship Fundraising Concert in Horace Mann Auditorium. The event featured an array of musicians from some of the music programs offered here at BSC.
Ashley Owen kicked off the event with a song by Giacomo Puccini, and while the song was dramatic and intense sounding, her voice glided over the notes smoothly and then followed with a lighter more delightful sounding song by Robert Wright.
Following Owen's performance, there was a Woodwind Quartet, and members of the Opera Ensemble Adam Isbitsky, Elsa Pettengill and Meg Foley gave outstanding vocal performances. While Isbitsky took a more serious tone, Pettengill and Foley milked their comedy duet from "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdink.
Next, was a beautifully performed flute and piano duet by Liz Ferrisi and Kurumi Ueno and an impressive percussion solo performed by Philip Curto.
The Bridgewater State College Jazz Show Choir performed with perfectly blended vocals and a comedic dance routine and the Jazz Combo grooved to the song "21st Century Schizoid" by King Crimson. And as always Khakatay, the West African Drumming Ensemble, gave an incredible performance on their own and then again with the Wind Ensemble.
Whether these musicians were performing more serious and intense music or keeping the tone light with fun upbeat songs, the level of talent and energy was sky high and really proved what our Music Department has to offer. As the first, of many more Music Scholarship Concerts to come, the Music Department had great success and showcased some incredible talent.
