Looking back at my past two columns, I realized that they're more female oriented. My intent with this column is to provide advice, suggestions, and commentary about looks that I love for both sexes, and I plan on sticking to that format. This week's column is going to tackle an issue I think guys are weary about: accessories. I'm not sure why that is, but I can make an educated guess that it's one of two things: 1. They never would think to. 2. It's "for girls." I could not disagree more. Accessories are a simple and affordable way to dress up any outfit.

Girls have endless options available to them, while the choices for guys are pushed aside. It's easy for them to customize an outfit perfectly so that every detail matches. Guys have a small pool to choose from, and being original can prove to be difficult. However, I have compiled a list of suggestions that are both cost effective and stylish. Combining them with the clothes most guys already have in their wardrobes will instantly add a personal touch to his look, making him one of a kind.

To start, let's begin with jewelry. Aldo, a shoe and accessories store for men and women, has a fairly extensive variety of options for guys. I'm a fan of their watches, which range from business to casual. Most are priced around $40, so the possibility of owning more than one is within reach. I own the oversized face snakeskin patent watch in both brown and white. These two colors go with practically everything in a guy's wardrobe, which makes them ideal. Plus, I guarantee people will compliment you on how expensive the watch looks. Its bold strap and defined face grab your attention. Only you will know the truth about the price!

Necklaces, rings, and bracelets are three things all guys should have, but in small quantities. Less is more when it comes to these, as too much will look gaudy and overdone. I recommend owning two rings, a plain silver band and one with some sort of design etched into it. Wearing both at once or one at a time is a simple way to style up an outfit. However, wearing them on your ring finger may send the wrong message to the ladies. Be cautious! The same goes for necklaces. Aldo has a great selection of these as well. Look for a silver cross on a chain rather than a cord. The chain is more casual and will go with more. I would save the cross for night looks, as it adds an extra bit of detail. Another option I recommend is a plain silver chain. This will go with any outfit, day or night. Its timeless style will never fail to make you look great. Lastly, there are bracelets. I purchased a Cape Cod bracelet two years ago and I haven't taken it off once. It's simple yet classic style is effortlessly handsome and polished, and I never cease to get compliments. I know not all guys would jump at these, so that's why I have other options. Aldo carries a line of metal and black rubber bracelets that are both masculine and stylish. They usually alternate links between pieces of metal and black rubber. These bracelets are great for night wear because of the black color, but can easily be worn during the day as well. Plain silver bracelets will bring you from day to night with ease, which may be a better choice depending on the guy.

There is one more item that I turned to in high school, and I have sworn by it ever since. That item is the messenger bag. They are far more stylish than a backpack, and hold just as many books depending on the size you choose. Some people may disagree with me on how they affect your body, but as a user of one for over five years, I can honestly say my back is fine. It's all about weight distribution. If you wear the messenger bag on one shoulder, obviously it's going to pull harder on one side. If you wear the strap going across your body, the weight is evenly distributed. Walking is a breeze, and much easier without the horrid weight on your back from a backpack. I know this article has already plugged Aldo throughout, but when the products are good, they deserve the praise! They carry a collection of messenger bags that have a European vibe to them mixed with the casual American feel. Purchasing one in brown or black will go with everything in your closet, fully complimenting your outfit from every angle.

Even though as guys our options for accessories are slim, that does not mean we can't work with what we have. Simple silver jewelry and messenger bags are easy and affordable ways to add a personal touch to any look, making you casually cool and put together. If you want a celebrity figure to look at for tips, look no further than the Jonas Brothers. I know you're probably laughing as you read this, but in all seriousness, those guys have serious style. They always look impeccable and accessorize well. It is rare for them to be seen without unique belts, daring scarves, and intriguing necklaces. They are the total package when it comes to looking good.

I know this article may be hard to grasp for some guys, but all I'm asking is that you take a chance. Don't be afraid to try something new. Accessories are simply a way to make an everyday outfit pop, which in turn, makes you stand out. Get out there and be noticed!
