The Bears and the Judges both emerge unscathed from two ten-minute sudden death overtime periods when the women's soccer team hosted Brandeis at Swenson Field yesterday.
Breaking the ice thirteen minutes into the first half, Bridgewater's Kaitlin Lamothe scored on a breakaway. Brandeis fought back quickly with a goal by Ellie Einhorn less than two minutes later. Possession switched back and forth for the rest of the first half until Izabella Miranda of Brandeis scored with six minutes to go.
The goalies for both Bridgewater and Brandeis played aggressively from the start. Goalie Kayla Grover did not let a goal in the entire second half, playing her best for Bridgewater.
"My outside defenders were there all game and the goalie's talk made it easier," said captain Yasima Carvalho.
"Playing hard to the ball and playing forward," was the response from Bears head coach, Andrea Ziegler, when asked for the team's strong points of the game. Coach Ziegler also commented on the team's defense, saying it was a weak point of the game.
Late in the second half with six minutes to go, Kristina McSharry tied the game with an assist from Kaitlin Lamothe. With the score tied as regulation play ended, the game went into sudden death overtime.
Neither goalie would relent as the game was coming to a close and the final result was a 2-2 tie after double overtime.
With this game, the Bear's overall record is now 0-1-2. The Bears will play their next home game Saturday at 1 pm against MCLA.
