On April 24, the fourth day of Bridgewater State College's week-long Springfest, a massive line wrapped around Swenson Field to the doors of the Tinsley Center to see comedian Stephen Lynch perform his very funny act.
Students and their guests stood outside the doors of the Tinsley Center for over an hour before the doors opened. The gym quickly filled with an eager audience itching to laugh. The event was no doubt one of the biggest events of the year and was said to have topped last year's comedic act Pablo Francisco
Not everyone got to see Stephen Lynch though. People were cut off at the door because there was no more room left in the gym which gives one a good idea on how much anticipation was in the air for this Springfest event.
The lights went out and Mr. Lynch walked on stage opening up with "Doctor Stephen." He then went on to play "Craig" and "Special Ed," some of many fan favorites. As some were expecting only a set list of songs, Stephen decided to do it all. He interacted with the audience, making up songs about BSC, and did a good amount of improvisation, proving that he is a talented,multi-dimensional comedian. He also brought two of his friends, including his manager, on stage to sing along with him in songs such as "She Got a Smile," "Sidekick," and "Dirty Sanchez."
The crowd reacted with enthusiasm and loads of laughter throughout the show singing along with the songs. Lynch said it was a lot of fun, and was surprised that almost the entire gym knew the words to his songs. Some students were even still outside during the performance hoping to hear their favorite song through the doors of the Tinsley Gym.
Born in Abington, Pennsylvania, Lynch grew up in Michigan and went to school at Western Michigan University. There he played guitar and sang his humorous songs for his friends. He quickly realized he had a talent for comedy with his background in music and theatre. Lynch lived in California for a year with his friends and then moved to New York City in 1996 to start his acting career.
He also decided to take the opportunity while he was in New York to play his unique music in cafés and comedy clubs. His fame quickly grew and before he knew it he got his big break on Comedy Central Presents in 2000 and started playing shows outside of NYC in larger venues while still touring in colleges throughout the U.S.
Lynch's appearance was sponsored by Program Committee and Student Government Association.
