All the votes have been tallied, and the Student Government Association Vice President for the 2008-2009 school year is Anthony Straughn.

Straughn has been involved with the SGA for one year, and got involved after being encouraged by current President Mario Pires and current Vice President Mickey Howard. "Being an Orientation Leader is where we first had discussions about it and they encouraged me to join," he explains.

Although Straughn had not been involved with a governing body with as much influence as the SGA prior to joining the Bridgewater State College's organization, he has served as the Senator of the School of Arts and Sciences during the 2007-2008 school year.

Straughn is also involved with other groups around campus, including being a Resident Assistant in Woodward Hall, serving as Treasurer of Afro-Am Society on campus. Additionally, Straughn is working as an Orientation Leader for the Center of Student Involvement and Leadership and Vice President of Pre-Law Club.

"I ran for Vice President for the main reason of being overseer of the SGA Lecture Series" explains Straughn. "I hope to institute Cultural Awareness through the next years upcoming speakers [and] I hope to provide a year of interesting, intriguing, and door busting speakers."

The duties of Vice President are as follows:

1. Run the Advocacy Survey Program

2. Serve as Chair of the Events and Public Relations Board.

3. Assist the President with his/her duties.

4. Represent the President in case of his/her absence.

5. Shall assist the President in appointing new officers seeking positions in the Senate, and 6.

Become the SGA President when, and if the office becomes vacant upon death, resignation, or removal from office.

Elections for offices are open to any member of the SGA, and two candidates campaigned in the past election.
