Afro-American Society In hopes of promoting diversity among its group members, the Afro-American Society is starting off this school year with an entirely new executive board, made up of President Rahwa Gebrezgi, Vice President Marlyn Colon, Treasurer Anthony Straughn, Secretary Carina Lahens, and Public Relations Representative Eddie Barbosa. The next event for Afro-Am will be a scary movie night in the Moakley Auditorium on Oct. 28. From Nov. 5 to Nov. 9 they will have a career week, which will feature a fashion show, an etiquette dinner, and resume and interview workshops.
Some issues that the club targets are career development, academic achievement, and community service in regards to students of African descent. Interested students can attend meetings Mondays from 5-6 p.m. Professional dress is suggested. For more information contact Rahwa at rgebrezgi@bridgew.edu Club de Espanol The president of Club de Espanol, Stefanie Mercadante, has put in a lot of hard work to ensure several exciting events for this semester. The first big event of the school year is the third annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 5-8 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of Crimson Hall. Culturally significant activities will be offered as well as Hispanic music and food, such as tortillas. Another activity is the second annual Trivia Night, which will test students' knowledge of Hispanic culture, with a chance to win a variety of prizes. The game will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Nov. 13 in 1 Park Ave. as part of International Week.
The Club de Espanol meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m. in RCC room 106; all are welcome. Other members of the executive board include Vice President Santaea Sen, Treasurer John Matson, and Secretary Melissa Albisu. For more information contact Stefanie at smercadante@bridgew.edu. Crimson Ambassadors President Chris Markey describes the Ambassadors as, "one of the most active, historic and exciting student leadership groups in the history of Bridgewater State College." He also called the Crimson Ambassadors, "a fixture on campus by way of college pride and, most of all, tradition." They are a group that holds many events throughout the year, such as The Annual Tuition Raffle, Crimson and White theme dances, and a holiday season clothing and toy drive for needy Massachusetts families, among others.
