The BSC Hockey team has enjoyed much success this season, and will look to keep that momentum going into the playoffs, which begin on February 16th. The Bears will take the ice tonight at 7:15 p.m. against Babson College in their final regular season home game of the year. Furthermore, three seniors will be honored for their contributions to Bears' hockey. Dr. Ron Pitt, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs, will be on-hand to drop the ceremonial first puck.

Tyler Mattewson has played four years of Bears' hockey. A criminal justice major, Matthewson has been the captain and the leading scorer of the team for the past two seasons. He has won two prestigious awards: co-MVP and co-Top Rookie. He plays right wing and is known for his profound slap shot.

Bobby Gross has also played four years for the BSC Hockey team. He has shared captain duties with Matthewson for the past two seasons. Also a criminal justice major, Gross is a winner of the Most Valuable Defenseman, co-MVP, and Top Rookie. His head coach, Andy Holman, describes Gross as a quiet but confident player who times his rushes with the puck well.

Anthony Taormina is taking part in his third and final year with the team. He plays on the penalty-kill special team. Coach Holman depicts Taormina as not only the vocal leader of the team, but the most physical player as well. Other teams know him for his devastating body checks.

Babson College will prove to be a tough task for the Bears. They come to town with a 12-8-1 overall record, and are currently riding a three game winning streak. The team is led by a trio of stars: Johnny Kim leads the team in goals (16), assists (17), and points (33). Sam Vatrano is a threat with 11 goals and 14 assists on the year, and Derek Nisula has pinched in with 9 goals and 16 assists.

Although hockey is a club sport at BSC, it is still competitive. The Bears play in the North East Collegiate Hockey Association conference, and are guaranteed a spot in the upcoming tournament, due to a 6-4-1-conference record. The Bears hold a 7-9-2 overall record and are coming off a huge win against league leading Bryant College, 3-2.

Bridgewater State will carry out a fundraising raffle during the game. The prize will be a 12-seat luxury box at the Fleet Center for the March 4th Bruins/New York Rangers game.

The Bridgewater Ice Arena, site of the game, is close by to campus. For directions, please access the men's hockey website from the BSC homepage in the athletics section. Help celebrate three outstanding careers at BSC and root them on for one final home win this season.
