Departmental Updates

The Department of Counselor Education received a national accreditation from The Council of Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, they are the first counseling program in Massachusetts to receive this accreditation. The Geography and Earth Sciences Department is excited to welcome the first of quite a few Brazilian exchange students over the next several years.

Social network website doubles as grounds for online evidence

Facebook is an online resource to meet people in your college. Almost everybody on any campus has familiarized themselves with this social tool. The ability to write on people's 'wall' or add photos and 'tag' each other in those photos has become as regular to most college students as instant messaging.

Athletic gear is prohibited at some parties

Everyone is interconnected these days with such sites as Facebook and MySpace. At Westfield State College athletes are told not to wear WSC apparel to parties. Instead of the athletic department stressing the consequences of underage drinking, they do not want to be affiliated with anything their athletes do outside of practice and games.

CLUB UPDATES

Afro-American Society In hopes of promoting diversity among its group members, the Afro-American Society is starting off this school year with an entirely new executive board, made up of President Rahwa Gebrezgi, Vice President Marlyn Colon, Treasurer Anthony Straughn, Secretary Carina Lahens, and Public Relations Representative Eddie Barbosa.

Making the Switch

After a few disturbing friend requests on "MySpace" (usually hopeful porn stars or middle-aged men disguised as eighteen year old football players), college students began to take refuge in the security and limitations of Facebook. Teddy Ferris, a Bridgewater State College student claims he switched to Facebook "because it was simpler and easier to use.

RHA weekend activities

On Sunday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. the Safety and Security Council and Residence Hall Association sponsored the, "Know Hall Sports" program. The event was held in the new Crimson Hall multi-purpose room. Students were able to watch the Patriots defeat the Cowboys, 48-27, on the big screen while eating chicken wings, potato skins, and mini pizzas.

On Wed., Oct. 10, former NBA player John Amaechi was at the Bridgewater State College campus speaking about diversity. The event was sponsored by the GLBTA Pride Center and many other organizations, including the Student Government Association. The night opened up with a few introductions and apologies.

We all fill out the teacher evaluations at the end of every semester yet where do they go? According to the Bridgewater website, "The assessments used, evaluative narrative reports as well as a numerical rating scale,which are utilized to document teachers' performance.

Brockton Mayor hopeful visits BSC campus
Brockton mayoral hopeful, Jass Stewart, could be seen as a prime example of what a degree in communications can give you. When he recently visited as part of the Speakers in Communication series put on by BSC's National Communication Association chapter, he not only showed what potential career paths are open to those who pursue degrees in communication, but illustrated by example what happens if one works hard with passion and a plan.

Spotlight on social scene

Nobody can drive down Burrill Avenue on a Thursday night and not encounter the mass of students stumbling back to their dorms. It's the unofficial start of the weekend and a good portion of the campus is literally buzzing after a night of socializing with their friends.
