Q&A with the Co-Managing Editor

		Q&A with the Co-Managing Editor

The Suffolk Voice, Suffolk University, MA

Last Thursday, we featured one of the two managing editors of The Suffolk Voice, Krystle Vermes. This issue, we turn the spotlight to her accomplice, Brett Boisvert. Brett held together one of the most popular, significant sections of the Voice as the news editor last year. We decided to do a little interrogating to gain some insight into how the job as co-managing editor is treating him this semester, and how he's handling the additional responsibility. In Thursday's issue, we'll shift the focus to Jimmy Toscano, the Voice sports editor. Continue to look for more Q&A with the editors in every issue from now until winter break!

Brown Daily Herald, Brown University , RI

For the past year and a half at Brown, I have thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at the Sharpe Refectory. The variety, atmosphere, and location have made it an ideal establishment to enjoy my daily meals. However, in the past week, I have lost all confidence in the Ratty.

Ever wonder why Shad gets so crowded in the evenings, or why you can always find runners and bikers circling the Charles? Is it to relieve stress, perhaps attract a future partner, or rather; is it to land that dream job? Like it or not, it seems that when it comes to landing the dream job, beautiful people have an edge.

When Julian Jung was playing a fishing game for class during his senior year of high school, his teacher, Erik Berg, did not just notice his aptitude for making an imaginary fishing company successful - he noticed his natural leadership and the ingenuity that helped his team win the game.

I was reading a book the other day and apparently, we've got the entire genesis of the world thing completely and utterly wrong. It was not some Big Bang followed by "evolution" and it sure as hell was not a voice in the ether proclaiming fiat lux. I found this compelling theory in a handy compendium of Greek myths that disproves everything else.

Sarah Rosenthal '11: No on Yes on Prop 8

Brown Daily Herald, Brown University , RI

Apparently, everybody's got to hate somebody. Racism has been out of vogue for years, and last Tuesday we elected a black man to be the leader of the free world. Yet on that same day, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida and California approved discriminatory ballot measures that limit the rights of same-sex couples.

Thumbs up to martinis that are shaken, not stirred.

Thumbs down to hockey talk,

Thumbs up to opting for basketball instead of musical theater.

Thumbs down to no Pats on Sunday, especially after that loss to the Jets last night. Damn you Brett Favre!

Thumbs up to days off in the middle of the week.

The birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees, FemSex, mSex, and this column too - Brown students just looooove to talk about sex. Sex Power God? Been there. Medical role-play? Done that. Anal beads? I own some. Oh yes, Brunonians have seen it all. Yet, bring up that the catchy little acronym "STI," and previously lively conversations begin to falter.

Sunday, November 1, marked the 13 month anniversary of the phone call that changed everything. It came on a Monday morning, somewhere around seven in the morning. I was asleep, still an hour or so from getting up to study for a marketing test I had later on that day.

The Record, Harvard Law School, MA

The election of Barack Obama '91 has unleashed a flurry of speculation over who will be considered for the new President's administration. Many of the choices will be made from among the horde of prominent liberals at the nation's top universities, and it comes as no surprise that one of the heaviest concentrations of these individuals - and one of the greatest potential sources of Obama administration appointments - is Harvard.

You might have heard a rumor. A rumor that I helped spread: A Notre Dame fan is still on campus. He got stranded - I heard he missed his flight or something - and is now staying in the Mods. This is a lie, and I'm sorry. Although this is a myth, there is a true legend staying in the Mods this week; we'll just call him Brocki. In his honor, I give you The Notre Dame Fan.

Make a quick jump to the "U.S. News and World Report" website and you'll find that Brown has again secured itself the last position in the Ivy League, sixteenth overall among national universities. You're a first-year student. You want to run to Shaw's or Price Chopper to grab a few snacks and sodas for the week, but you don't have a car. Or, you're an upperclassman whose car recently broke down, and you need to get to your job or internship. Do you find it frustrating to be without a car on campus? Is it impossible to get around without one? Therefore, the new idea of bringing the Zip Car program to Assumption College is a wonderful idea, right?

No.
