Students contend with meal plan constraints

  Freshman Scott Elliott walked into the Bear's Den dining hall on Wednesday November 30 and came out with six 32 ounce bottles of Gatorade.   The Elementary Education major and resident student had approximately 120 dining dollars left on his meal plan with only three weeks left in the semester, a common problem for Bridgewater State University students.   As the semester winds down and I'm getting ready to leave England, it's a bittersweet ending to a fantastic semester.  But as much as I will miss life here, there are parts of the US that I really miss and really took for granted.  It being close to the holidays and all, I would like to reflect on what I am looking forward to the most about them. What to do on winter break

  With the end of the semester less than a month away, the question on most people's minds after "How am I going to get through finals?" is "What am I going to do with a month off from school?" For those of us who will not be spending the break chained to a cash register, a desk, or some other job, this is a difficult question to answer, both to ourselves, and for those who live at home, our parents. No arrests in weekend stabbing

  A Bridgewater State University student was stabbed early Sunday morning in front of an off-campus apartment.   Thomas Vallee, 19, of Augusta, Maine, was stabbed in the upper right side of his chest. The Bridgewater Police Department, which is continuing to investigate the incident, described Vallee's injuries as non-life threatening.

Lady Bears dynamic backcourt have common past

  For the past two years, junior Elisha Homich and sophomore Jenna Williamson have been teammates on Bridgewater State University's women's basketball team. Prior to college, the pair had been playing basketball together since they were in the secondand third grade. Full story

  Brooke Parsons is the first to admit that she ran for the Bridgewater State University Student Government Association as a freshman because it would look good on her resume.   But something started to change during her sophomore year, when she started to consider career options in student affairs. Students on alert after email scam promises iPhone

  On November 28, an email scam message was sent out to Bridgewater students asking them to provide personal account information.  The scammer, under the name of Sara Jennings, offered students to test and keep an unreleased iPhone5 in exchange for this information, including their passwords.   Major/Minor Change Procedure to Move Online During the December 6 meeting of the Student Government Association, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Howard London and Associate Vice President for Enrollment Service Heather Smith told SGA members that soon students may be able to change their major or minor electronically. Too much security in Shea/Durgin hall?

  As my first days of college started, I was excited, nervous and curious to see how college life actually worked. Trying to find my way around campus was overwhelming, and coming back to Shea/Durgin was even more overwhelming. Almost every time I entered the building, there would be a line of people getting their bags checked, and a security guard yelling at everyone to have their bags open and ready. Full story

Without enforcement, tobacco ban is all smoke and mirrors

  Last spring the University approved a Tobacco Free Policy which has been in effect since September 1, 2011. Though the administration had good intentions when they approved this policy it has yet to make a major difference on campus. This policy bans smoking on everything that is considered University property and affects not only students and faculty but customers, vendors, and visitors. Full story

Athletes score no extra points with meal plan

  We score baskets, make goals and are proud to say Bridgewater State University runs through our veins. We do our part to make the school a better place, but when we pass out on the field after a hard practice due to malnutrition and an empty stomach, we can thank the administration that suggested what meal plan we purchased.
